Amazon planning $9 billion cloud infrastructure investment in Singapore - reports

Investing.com -- Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is planning to spend almost $9 billion to expand its cloud computing infrastructure in Singapore over the next four years, according to media reports on Tuesday.

Citing a statement from Amazon Web Services, the tech giant's vaunted cloud division, the reports said that a total of S$12 billion -- or roughly $8.8 billion -- will be spent in Singapore.

The decision comes as governments around Southeast Asia have been hosting tech industry leaders like Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) Chief Executive Jensen Huang and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) boss Tim Cook in a bid to entice them to invest in the region.

AWS Country Manager Priscilla Chong said that the unit is "doubling down" on its cloud investments in Singapore until 2028, Reuters reported. Chong added that the move will help "reinforce Singapore's status as an attractive regional innovation launchpad."

Outside of Singapore, AWS has previously unveiled investments of $5 billion in Thailand and $6 billion in Malaysia.
