WASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Democrat Rebecca Bennett defeated US Representative Tom Kean of New Jersey on Tuesday, according to US media, flipping a Republican-held seat.
Bennett is a former US Navy helicopter pilot.
Kean was the most vulnerable Republican in New Jersey's congressional delegation. He flipped the Democratic-held seat in 2022 but disappeared from the public for months in an election year before disclosing this summer his battle with depression.
President Donald Trump carried the district by 1.2 percentage points in 2024.
Nationally, Democrats need to net four seats to win control of the US House of Representatives.
