CPI Gains 0.1% in Jan., Flat with Views; Rise Bolstered by Electricity, Nat Gas Usage
February 20, 2014 11:31 AM ESTThe Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.1 percent in January on a seasonally adjusted basis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 1.6 percent before seasonal adjustment.
*** Consensus views were looking for a gain of 0.1 percent.
Increases in the indexes for household energy accounted for most of the all items increase. The electricity index posted its largest increase since March 2010, and the indexes for natural gas and fuel oil also rose sharply. These increases more than offset a decline in the gasoline index,... More
