Dollar General (DG) stock plunges on earnings miss, lowered outlook

Dollar General (NYSE: DG) saw its shares plunge more than 26% on Thursday after the discount retailer reported second-quarter earnings and revenue that fell short of analyst expectations and significantly lowered its full-year guidance.
The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.70 for the second quarter, missing the analyst consensus of $1.80. Revenue came in at $10.21 billion, below estimates of $10.38 billion, though up 4.2% YoY. Same-store sales increased a modest 0.5% compared to the same quarter last year.
