(Reuters) - Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS) will stop providing new movies to Netflix Inc (NASDAQ: NFLX) starting in 2019 and launch its own streaming service as the world's biggest entertainment company tries to capture digital viewers who are dumping traditional television.

August 8, 2017 4:06 PM EDTThe Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) today announced that it has agreed to acquire majority ownership of BAMTech, LLC and will launch its ESPN-branded multi-sport video streaming service in early 2018, followed by a new Disney-branded direct-to-consumer streaming service in 2019.
