Netflix (NFLX), Amazon (AMZN) on Watch; Hulu Announces Ad-Free Streaming Service
September 2, 2015 11:14 AM UTCNetflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) and Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) are on watch following a press release from Hulu earlier, which highlighted the company's plan to offer advertising-free/limited advertising streaming service. Netflix is trading negative Wednesday, while Amazon is slightly positive.

Hulu -- owned by NBCUniversal, Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS), and 21st Century Fox (Nasdaq: FOXA) -- said it plans to offer a commercial-free option to its subscribers for $11.99 per month. The new service is seen as a rival to Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) and Amazon.com's (NASDAQ: AMZN) Prime Instant Video, which don't carry commercials. Hulu's press release is below.

Netflix (NFLX) Frees-up ~$180M/yr. by Not Renewing Epix Contract - FBR
August 31, 2015 3:04 PM UTCFBR & Co. commented on Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) following news that the company wouldn't revenue its contract with Epix.
Analyst Barton Crockett noted that Netflix may have freed up about $180 million per year in spending, with estimates that the original Epix contract signed in 2010 was for five years and ran roughly $900 million in total.
