Satellogic expands U.S. Navy research deal to add six satellites

Satellogic Inc. (NASDAQ: SATL) announced an expanded agreement with Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) in support of the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) Slingshot III program, according to a company press release dated Sept. 14, 2026.

Under the new agreement, Satellogic will integrate six NewSat Mark VI satellites into the Slingshot III architecture over the next 18 months. On-orbit activities and tests are scheduled to take place during 2027 and 2028. The work includes enhanced onboard data processing, system feasibility checks, and automated data filtering.

The Slingshot program is an ONR research and development initiative aimed at advancing low-latency maritime domain awareness using commercial space capabilities. Earlier phases demonstrated accelerated image processing, object classification, and track generation using commercial satellites and onboard software.

The NewSat Mark VI satellites are equipped with inter-satellite link (ISL) technology, which allows satellites to share information across a constellation. The architecture is intended to enable more autonomous workflows and reduce the time between data collection and decision-making.

"This expanded work is a meaningful step in operationalizing the capabilities we have been proving through Slingshot," said Emiliano Kargieman, Chief Executive Officer of Satellogic.

IDT Chairman and CEO Bernie Gauf said the program demonstrates that capabilities previously limited to specialized government systems can be delivered via commercial platforms.
