Yelp adds OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 to restaurant and service tools

Yelp Inc. (NYSE: YELP) has integrated OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 voice model into two of its business products: Yelp Host, a voice AI tool for restaurants, and Hatch, an AI communication platform for service businesses.

GPT-Live-1 uses a full-duplex voice architecture that allows conversations to include natural pauses, interruptions, and overlapping speech. The integration enables both products to detect caller tone, respond in multiple languages, and adapt to mid-sentence topic changes.

Yelp Host, which launched in October 2025, has handled more than one million calls for restaurants. The product draws on each restaurant's operational data, including reservation availability, menu information, and seating details. According to the company, initial production testing showed improvement in call-handling rates and a reduction in call transfers following the GPT-Live-1 integration.

Hatch, which Yelp acquired in 2026, manages tens of millions of leads across voice, text, email, and web channels for service businesses. The platform is designed to handle tasks such as scheduling, lead qualification, and appointment booking.

"GPT-Live-1 transforms how the conversation feels, and Hatch provides the operational intelligence that turns those conversations into booked jobs," said Chris Bache, co-founder and chief executive officer at Hatch.

Akhil Kuduvalli Ramesh, chief product officer at Yelp, said the integration makes Yelp Host "more conversational and responsive," allowing restaurant staff to focus on in-person service.

OpenAI multimodal product lead Teri Yu said GPT-Live-1 is being made available through the API so developers can pair it with other models and tools to build voice experiences.
