Genuine Parts Company (NYSE: GPC) has named leadership teams for its planned separation into two independent, publicly traded companies, with the split targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
Court Carruthers, a current GPC board member, has been appointed chief executive officer-elect of the automotive business, which will retain the Genuine Parts Company name. Jean-Jacques Lafont, also a current board member and co-founder of GPC's European operations, will serve as non-executive chairman of GPC upon separation. Current chairman and CEO Will Stengel will move to the industrial business, called Motion, as chairman and chief executive officer.
Bert Nappier, currently executive vice president and chief financial officer, will take on an expanded role as executive vice president, chief financial and operating officer of GPC, effective immediately.
For Motion, James Howe has been appointed president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. Howard Yu, who most recently served as executive vice president and CFO of Ball Corporation, will join Motion as executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Carruthers previously served as CEO of TricorBraun and spent 13 years at W.W. Grainger, most recently as group president of the Americas, overseeing a $9 billion distribution business. Yu previously served as CFO of Envista Holdings, a spin-off from Danaher Corporation, and helped lead its 2019 initial public offering.
GPC and Motion will each host separate investor days in New York City, scheduled for December 8 and December 9, 2026, respectively.
The separation remains subject to customary conditions, including final board approval and the effectiveness of a Form 10 registration statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
