Bird Construction expands Indigenous road partnership in northern Ontario

Bird Construction Inc. (TSX: BDT) announced that Piinahzii Limited Partnership has signed an amended agreement to include construction of the Marten Falls Community Access Road, expanding the scope of a partnership formed earlier this year between Bird and Marten Falls First Nation.

Piinahzii LP is a majority Indigenous-owned partnership. The amended agreement extends its role beyond community infrastructure and readiness work to include construction of the access road itself, following a groundbreaking announcement by the Province of Ontario.

The Marten Falls Community Access Road will be approximately 184 kilometres long and include 35 bridge and culvert structures. It will connect Marten Falls First Nation to Ontario's provincial highway network for the first time, providing year-round access to health care, education, and other services. The road is described as the longest segment of a proposed 514-kilometre all-season road network intended to support access to the Ring of Fire region.

The agreement is structured to create employment, training, and contracting opportunities for Marten Falls community members and Indigenous businesses.
