Broadcom adds AI agent governance tools to VMware Tanzu Platform

Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) announced new capabilities for its VMware Tanzu Platform at the VMware Explore 2026 conference in Las Vegas, adding what the company describes as AI-ready data foundations designed to help enterprises deploy AI agents within private cloud environments.

The update introduces several features aimed at addressing data security and operational concerns associated with autonomous AI agents. Key additions include hardened agent sandboxes operating on a deny-by-default security model, on-site processing of structured and unstructured enterprise data, a curated marketplace for AI models and tools, and an AI gateway to monitor and log agent activity for compliance purposes.

According to Broadcom, the new framework is intended to allow enterprises to move AI projects from pilot stages to production deployments within their own private cloud infrastructure, limiting exposure to data leakage and unplanned cloud egress costs.

"Enterprises do not have an AI ambition problem. They have an agent trust problem. You cannot let software make decisions on data you do not govern, running on infrastructure you do not control," said Purnima Padmanabhan, vice president and general manager of Broadcom's Tanzu Division.

Business Development Bank of Canada cited its use of the Tanzu Platform in an integration effort that began in 2019. "The platform helped standardize how applications were deployed and managed across teams, reducing manual processes," said Marie-Claude Potvin, assistant vice president of infrastructure services at the bank.

The announced capabilities are expected to be generally available in fall 2026.
