Rhythm Pharmaceuticals names Manher Joshi as chief medical officer

Rhythm Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: RYTM) has appointed Manher "AJ" Joshi, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer, effective Aug. 17, according to a company statement.

Dr. Joshi joins Rhythm from Soleno Therapeutics, where he served as Chief Development Officer. His prior roles include Chief Medical Officer at Neurona Therapeutics and Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Clinical Development at Atara Biotherapeutics. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Allergan Medical, Hunt Bioventures, Synageva BioPharma Corp., Genzyme and HealthBanks.

Dr. Joshi holds a B.A. and M.D. from Boston University and Boston University School of Medicine and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Yale.

David Meeker, M.D., Rhythm's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, said in the statement that Dr. Joshi "brings more than two decades of leadership and experience from discovery through pivotal trials, global regulatory processes and life-cycle management."

Rhythm is a Boston-based biopharmaceutical company focused on rare neuroendocrine diseases. Its lead product, IMCIVREE (setmelanotide), is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for weight reduction in patients with certain rare genetic and acquired obesity conditions. The company is also developing additional MC4R agonists, including bivamelagon and RM-718.
