BIO-key International (NASDAQ: BKYI) and its Portuguese partner Visualforma have been awarded a contract to deploy identity and access management solutions for an unnamed Portuguese national security agency, according to a press release issued Aug. 10, 2026.
The contract expands an existing relationship between BIO-key and Visualforma in Portugal's public sector, which previously covered government organizations and municipalities. The new deployment moves into what the companies describe as a security-sensitive government environment.
The solution includes several products from BIO-key's portfolio: PortalGuard, an identity and access management platform with multi-factor authentication and single sign-on; WEB-key, a fingerprint-based biometric authentication platform; Identity-Bound Biometrics, which ties digital identities to verified individuals; PIN:You, a PIN-based authentication tool; and EcoID III, FBI PIV-certified fingerprint scanners designed for government use.
"This award reflects the confidence that Portuguese public institutions continue to place in Visualforma's ability to deliver secure and reliable digital transformation projects," said Humberto Bento, operations director at Visualforma.
"National security agencies operate in environments where identity is the first line of cyber defense," said Alex Rocha, managing director at BIO-key International. "By combining enterprise Identity and Access Management with identity-bound biometric authentication, we help ensure that access to critical systems is verified, auditable, and tied to the individual—not simply a password, token, or device."
Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. BIO-key is headquartered in Holmdel, N.J., and Visualforma is based in Faro, Portugal.
