CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) announced that its approximately 9,000 CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide will now dispense prescription medications for dogs and cats, according to a company statement.
Available pet medications include select antibiotics, allergy treatments, flea and tick control, insulin, and pain relievers. Pet owners can fill prescriptions by presenting a written prescription in-store or having their veterinarian contact the pharmacy directly. Pickup and delivery options are available for eligible medications.
Pet prescriptions at CVS Pharmacy will be eligible for services already offered to human patients, including automatic refills and prescription syncing. Pet owners can also manage eligible pet prescriptions through the CVS Health app by adding their pets to a CVS.com profile. The company said electronic prescription capabilities and additional enhancements for veterinarians will be added in the coming months.
Sid Tenneti, Senior Vice President and Interim President of Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness at CVS Health, said in the statement: "With the addition of pet medication dispensing, CVS Pharmacy can now serve every member of the family."
CVS Pharmacy also carries pet-related retail products in stores and online, including items under its own Pet Central brand and national brands such as Milk-Bone, Greenies, and Temptations. New Pet Central brand items are expected to be added in September.
