Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) has extended Xfinity and Comcast Business internet service to more than 1,500 homes and businesses in and around Flagler Estates in St. Johns County, Florida, including more than 1,100 locations that previously had no service.
The broadband infrastructure project was completed through a public-private partnership with Florida's Broadband Opportunity Program and was finished ahead of schedule, according to a company statement.
Residential customers in the area now have access to Xfinity internet, mobile, television, and home security services. Comcast Business services are also available to local enterprises.
Christine Valliere, Director of Economic Development and Intergovernmental Affairs for St. Johns County, said the expansion "will create opportunities for entrepreneurship, remote work, business growth, and increased workforce participation."
The Flagler Estates project is part of a broader Comcast expansion in Florida that also includes service buildouts in Lake County, Leon County, and Nassau County.
Comcast said its Internet Essentials program, which provides low-cost internet service and affordable computers to eligible households, is available to qualifying residents in the newly served area.
