Star Bulk agrees to buy 16 ships from Diana for $470.5 million

Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ: SBLK) entered into a conditional agreement to acquire 16 vessels from Diana Shipping Inc. (NYSE: DSX) for $470.5 million in cash, according to a company statement.

The transaction depends on Diana successfully acquiring all outstanding shares of Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd. (NYSE: GNK) that it does not already own. The agreement also requires standard conditions for ship purchase transactions to be met.

The vessel portfolio includes one Newcastlemax, six Capesize vessels, seven Ultramax vessels and two Supramax vessels. The ships have a combined carrying capacity of 1.8 million deadweight tons and an average age of 11.4

Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ: SBLK) announced it has entered into a conditional agreement to acquire 16 vessels from Diana Shipping Inc. (NYSE: DSX) for $470.5 million in cash. The transaction is contingent on Diana successfully acquiring all outstanding shares of Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd. (NYSE: GNK) not already owned by Diana.

(the "Company" or "Star Bulk") (NASDAQ: SBLK), today announced it has entered into a conditional Sale and Purchase Agreement (the “SPA”) to acquire sixteen vessels from Diana Shipping Inc. (“Diana”, NYSE: DSX), subject to Diana successfully acquiring all issued and outstanding shares of Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd. (“Genco”, NYSE:GNK), not already owned by Diana.
