Investing.com -- Novartis Chief Executive Officer Vas Narasimhan said Tuesday he intends to continue leading the Swiss pharmaceutical company through its upcoming growth period. The announcement came as the company prepares for several important trial data releases scheduled for the second half of 2026.

Narasimhan addressed journalists during a call following the company's second-quarter earnings report. When asked about his future plans, he stated there would be no changes to his current role at the drugmaker.

Novartis (NYSE: NVS) reported Q2 EPS of $2.41, $0.23 better than the analyst estimate of $2.18. Revenue for the quarter came in at $14.41 billion versus the consensus estimate of $14.17 billion.

Outlook

Net sales expected to grow low single-digit (vs. estimated growth of 0.41% Y/Y) and core operating income expected to decline low single-digit.

Novartis wins EU approval for SMA gene therapy in older patients

Investing.com -- Novartis announced Thursday that the European Commission approved Itvisma (onasemnogene abeparvovec) for treating children aged two years and older, teenagers and adults with 5q spinal muscular atrophy. The therapy targets patients with a bi-allelic mutation in the survival motor neuron 1 gene.

Itvisma becomes the first gene replacement therapy approved for this broad SMA population in the European Union. The treatment addresses the genetic root cause of SMA through a one-time fixed dose that does not require adjustment for age or body weight. The therapy works by replacing the SMN1 gene to improve motor function.
