HII (NYSE: HII) outlined its strategy to accelerate shipbuilding for the U.S. Navy during a House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense field hearing held in Santa Clarita, Calif.

Eric Chewning, HII's executive vice president of maritime systems and corporate strategy, told the subcommittee that the company's shipyard throughput increased 14% year-over-year in 2025 and that HII is targeting a 15% year-over-year increase in 2026. The company currently has approximately 40 ships at its Ingalls and Newport News facilities in active construction or modernization.

Investing.com -- The U.S. Department of War awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc. a $336,112,000 contract for advance procurement of long lead time materials to support construction of the future USS William J. Clinton (CVN 82).

The company, based in Newport News, Virginia, will perform the work at its Newport News facility. The project is expected to be completed by March 2039.

The contract will be funded with fiscal 2026 shipbuilding and conversion Navy funding in the amount of $336,112,000. The funds will be obligated at the time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Investing.com - The USS Abraham Lincoln has been at sea for 265 days as of Thursday, the longest carrier deployment in recent memory, with more than 200 consecutive days without a standard port call, as the U.S. Navy prepares to rotate in a replacement.

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the USS George Washington, based in Japan, is heading to the Middle East to relieve the Lincoln as part of a previously scheduled rotation. HII wins $2.2B contract for SOUTHCOM surveillance operations

HII (NYSE: HII) said its Mission Technologies division has been awarded a $2.2 billion task order to deliver surveillance, intelligence, and reconnaissance capabilities in support of the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).

The contract covers a program called STRINGRAI — Surveillance, Tracking, Intelligence, Network Services, Global Reconnaissance, Analysis, and Interceptions — designed to support SOUTHCOM's operations across Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

The task order was awarded under the General Services Administration (GSA) ASTRO Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, issued by GSA Assisted Acquisition Services Defense. The contract includes one base year with six option years.
