Raymond James upgrades Genuine Parts on breakup value

Investing.com -- Genuine Parts Company was upgraded to Strong Buy from Outperform at Raymond James, which set a $145 price target based on a sum-of-the-parts valuation following the planned separation of its Auto and Industrial businesses. Shares jumped 2% at $119 on Tuesday.

Shares have fallen about 20% since the fourth-quarter earnings report, despite the company announcing it would split its operations. Raymond James said the current setup is “constructively asymmetric,” with the implied valuation of the Auto business well below peers.

Raymond James analyst Sam Darkatsh upgraded Genuine Parts (NYSE: GPC) from Market Perform to Strong Buy with a price target of $145.00.

The analyst comments: "Our constructive rating is supported by:

SOTP valuation implies favorable asymmetry. Assuming Motion conservatively gets a 2x discount to direct peer AIT (~17x forward), NA Auto 10x (i.e., AAP), and International Auto 8x, our SOTP math suggests fair value of ~$145/share (Fig. 2; with $50M stranded costs). Put another way, a 15x multiple on Motion suggests the market is valuing total Auto at ~4.5x (Fig. 3) vs. a peer average for ORLY, AZO, and AAP of ~15x.

Brightpick, an AI-powered warehouse automation company, announced a strategic partnership with NAPA Auto Parts to deploy robotic technology across distribution centers. The partnership marks Brightpick's entry into the automotive sector and represents its largest U.S. customer agreement.

The companies completed a pilot project in 2025 before NAPA signed an agreement for an additional site in early 2026. The first project under this agreement will include more than 100 Brightpick robots to support high-volume processing operations.
