BWXT wins $4M NNSA contract for lithium facility design

BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to develop a conceptual design for the first module of a new Lithium Processing Facility at the Y-12 National Security Complex, according to a press release from the company.

The phase one contract is valued at $4 million and spans four months. Under the agreement, BWXT will produce a conceptual design for the facility's Machining and Inspection Module. NNSA selected two companies through a competitive process to advance conceptual designs in parallel.

(NYSE: BWXT) has been selected to deploy its BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor (BANR) technology under the U.S. Army's Janus program, a nuclear energy initiative developed in partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). The first BANR unit is slated for deployment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The Janus program, which launched in October 2025, aims to deliver nuclear energy to military installations. According to the Army, five vendors were down-selected to own, construct, and operate nuclear microreactors at several military sites.
