Citi highlights this "unique value play" in the aerospace sector

Citi has initiated coverage of a major aircraft leasing firm with a bullish view, calling the company a "unique 'value play'" within the aerospace sector.

In a Monday note to clients, the Wall Street firm initiated coverage of AerCap Holdings (NYSE: AER) with a Buy rating and $173 price target, implying nearly 17% upside from the last closing price.

Analyst John Godyn said AerCap is exposed to the same aerospace megatrends driving many stocks across Citi’s coverage, but stands apart on two fronts.

AerCap (NYSE: AER) and Boeing (NYSE: BA) announced an order for 15 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, bringing AerCap's total 787 Dreamliner portfolio to approximately 140 airplanes.

The agreement, announced at the Farnborough Airshow in the United Kingdom, includes substitution rights for the larger 787-10 variant, which AerCap said gives it the option to switch to a model offering 50 more seats than the 787-9.

AerCap Holdings N.V. (NYSE: AER) announced an order for 15 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft at the 2026 Farnborough International Air Show, with deliveries scheduled through 2033.

The order will bring AerCap's total fleet of 787 aircraft to approximately 140. The agreement includes substitution rights to the larger Boeing 787-10 variant. GE Aerospace's GEnx-1B engines will power the aircraft.
