James Beeland Rogers Jr.

James Beeland Rogers Jr. was a co-founder, along with George Soros, of the Quantum Fund. Rogers graduated from Yale in 1964 with a bachelor's degree and got his first job on Wall Street at Dominick & Dominick. He then acquired a master's degree from Oxford University in 1966. In 1970, while at Arnhold & S. Bleichroeder, he met George Soros and they created the Quantum Fund. The following ten years the fund gained 4200 percent compared to the 47 percent the S&P 500 gained. Rogers then retired in 1980 and traveled through China on a motorcycle.

In 1998, Rogers founded the Rogers International Commodity Index. The index measures 35 different commodities from 11 different international exchanges.

In his book, Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably in the World's Best Market, Rogers claims that commodity investments are some of the best investments over time, which is a concept somewhat at odds with conventional investment thinking.
