Bread Financial reports lower loss, delinquency rates in August 2026
Bread Financial Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BFH) released its monthly performance update for August 2026, reporting year-over-year declines in both its net principal loss rate and delinquency rate, according to a company statement.
The net principal loss rate for the month ended August 31, 2026, was 6.40%, compared with 7.57% for the same period in 2025. Net principal losses totaled $101 million in August 2026, down from $113 million a year earlier.
End-of-period credit card and other loans stood at $18.73 billion as of August 31, 2026, up from $17.66 billion a year prior. Average credit card and other loans were $18.59 billion for the month, reflecting a 5.6% year-over-year increase, compared with a 0.9% decline in the same period of 2025.
The company's delinquency rate, measured as 30-days-plus principal delinquencies as a share of period-end principal loans, was 5.36% as of August 31, 2026, compared with 5.84% as of August 31, 2025. The dollar value of 30-days-plus delinquencies fell to $885 million from $934 million over the same period, while period-end credit card and other loans on a principal basis rose to $16.51 billion from $16.00 billion.
