Roblox announces standalone apps, browser play, and creator wallet

September 11, 2026 3:00 PM

Roblox Corporation (NYSE: RBLX) announced a series of platform updates at its 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), an invite-only event for the company's creator community.

On the player side, Roblox said creators will soon have the option to publish their games as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles. By the end of this year, players will also be able to join games directly in a Chrome browser with no app installation required, with additional browsers to follow. The company also announced offline play support and expanded engine capabilities for 2D games.

For creators, Roblox is expanding its AI-assisted "Build" tab, which allows users to generate and publish games through text prompts, to public alpha in Serbia and Singapore. Since an earlier alpha launch in New Zealand, creators have published approximately 9,000 games using the tool, and 71% of those creators had never previously used Roblox Studio, according to data through Sept. 1, 2026.

Roblox also announced a new financial product called Roblox Wallet, which will allow eligible U.S.-based independent creators aged 18 and older to receive earnings in real currency, with automatic daily payouts. Payment services will be provided through Airwallex US, LLC. A linked Roblox Card, allowing creators to spend their balance, is set to begin rolling out next year. Global expansion of the wallet is planned for next year as well.

According to the company, creators have earned more than $5 billion on the platform since the DevEx program launched in 2013, with approximately $1.7 billion earned in the past 12 months through June 30, 2026.

The company also said its Moments video tab, where players can watch gameplay clips and launch games directly, is now fully available in the United States. Players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox during the quarter ended June 30, 2026, across more than 180 countries.
