BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB) announced an expanded strategic focus for its BlackBerry Radar platform, positioning the product as an Asset Intelligence Platform for Transportation. The announcement, based on a company press release, highlights a deployment with DCLI, which the company describes as the largest provider of container chassis to the U.S. intermodal industry.

DCLI uses BlackBerry Radar's location data combined with inspection due dates to help yard and maintenance teams identify and locate equipment requiring attention. According to the company, this workflow reduced the advance planning window for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) inspections from 90 days to 60 days, representing a 33% reduction in inspection lead time.

"By leveraging this information, we have been able to better identify chassis in need of FMCSA inspections and reduce the lead time for those inspections by 33%," said Phil Wolfe, chief operating officer of DCLI. Wolfe added that the reduction "results in real cost savings for the business by deferring the inspection expense closer to the time it's actually required."

DCLI announced plans in 2025 to deploy Radar across 100,000 DCL53 domestic 53-foot chassis. Wolfe said the company expects to complete GPS unit installation across the entire DCL53 fleet by the end of this year, anticipating further reductions in inspection lead time.

BlackBerry Radar is scheduled to appear at the IANA Intermodal Expo from September 14 to 16 in Long Beach, California.
