York Space Systems (NYSE: YSS) has been named prime contractor for the initial phase of Tomorrow.io's DeepSky early warning satellite constellation, under a $187 million contract first disclosed in March, according to a press release from the Denver-based company.

York will deliver dozens of satellites built on its M-CLASS platform for the planned proliferated low-Earth orbit constellation. Each spacecraft will carry five instruments, including Gen-2 microwave sounders, GNSS radio occultation, GNSS reflectometry, infrared and visible imaging, and space-based precipitation radar.

As prime contractor, York is responsible for end-to-end program delivery, covering spacecraft manufacture through payload integration.

Michael Laczjok, CTO of York, said the M-CLASS platform was suited to accommodate Tomorrow.io's full instrument suite, citing its size, power, onboard processing, and thermal management capabilities for running active sensors including precipitation radar.

Shimon Elkabetz, CEO and co-founder of Tomorrow.io, said the selection was based on York's ability to deliver on rapid timelines and handle demanding payload and mission configurations.

York states it has invested more than $755 million in production to support constellation-scale delivery programs.
