Compass Minerals International (NYSE: CMP) commented on a White House announcement that salt and pure sodium chloride produced in Canada will be excluded from the 50% ad valorem Section 338 tariffs, effective Sept. 15, 2026.

The exclusion applies to Canadian-produced salt, which is relevant to Compass Minerals' operations at its underground salt mine in Goderich, Ontario. The company supplies salt to communities in the Northeast and Midwest United States for road safety during winter weather events.

"We are grateful the Trump Administration recognized the critical role our salt products play in public safety and interstate commerce. We would also like to thank U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and others who worked alongside him for their advocacy on behalf of Compass Minerals and our industry," the company said in a statement.

Compass Minerals operates 11 production and packaging facilities and employs more than 1,800 people across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.
