Amazon Leo adds 6 Arianespace launches, expanding deal to 24 total
Amazon Leo has expanded its launch agreement with Arianespace, adding six new Ariane 6 contracts to bring its total committed launches from 18 to 24, according to a company statement.
Amazon first signed with Arianespace in 2022 as part of a broader set of agreements covering more than 80 launches. Arianespace has since delivered 100 Amazon Leo satellites to orbit across three missions. The most recent mission, Leo Europe 3, deployed 36 satellites using upgraded P160C solid boosters, which the companies describe as the heaviest commercial payload ever launched on any rocket. The upgraded boosters increase Ariane 6's payload capacity by up to two metric tons.
The expanded agreement extends what Arianespace has described as the largest commercial contract in its history. Amazon Leo is Arianespace's largest single customer, and the deal spans a supply chain across 13 European countries and more than 600 companies. Oxford Economics estimates the associated EU spending will contribute €2.8 billion to GDP and support an average of 3,270 jobs annually through 2029.
"Europe isn't just a region we are going to serve. Europe's launch infrastructure is part of the operational architecture of the Amazon Leo constellation," said Chris Weber, vice president of Amazon Leo business and product.
"We are delighted to reach this new stage in our partnership with Amazon Leo. These six additional launches demonstrate Amazon Leo's confidence in the performance and reliability of Ariane 6," said David Cavaillolès, CEO of Arianespace.
Amazon Leo has completed 14 missions since full-scale deployment began in April 2025, placing nearly 400 satellites into orbit. The company has secured more than 100 launches across multiple providers and is preparing for an initial service rollout, with plans to expand coverage globally.
