Salesforce in talks to acquire AI platform Listen Labs for $2 billion - report

September 9, 2026 3:50 PM

Investing.com -- Salesforce Inc (NYSE: CRM) is reportedly in preliminary discussions to acquire Listen Labs, an AI-driven customer research platform, in a deal valued at approximately $2 billion. The potential transaction highlights the software giant's persistent appetite for strategic assets that can bolster its enterprise artificial intelligence suite, according to reporting initially published by Business Insider citing sources familiar with the matter.

While negotiations remain ongoing and could still collapse without an agreement, news of the potential takeover weighed slightly on market sentiment. Shares of Salesforce dipped 1.9% in Wednesday trading as investors digested the prospective outlay against the backdrop of the company's broader capital allocation strategy.

A transaction of this scale would mark the latest expansion in an aggressive M&A campaign launched by the cloud software pioneer throughout 2026. Just months earlier, Salesforce executed its largest recent deal by agreeing to purchase customer agent provider Fin, formerly known as Intercom, for approximately $3.6 billion in mid-June.

That transaction followed a rapid sequence of targeted software acquisitions designed to deepen the integration of generative and agentic AI capabilities across its platform ecosystem. In early June, the enterprise firm moved to acquire m3ter to natively power consumption-based monetization within Agentforce Revenue Management, closely following its acquisition of composable content platform Contentful to strengthen its enterprise digital experience offerings.

The strategic push was set in motion earlier in the year through targeted bolt-on deals for conversational insights platform Momentum and AI product discovery platform Cimulate. By continuously layering specialized AI and data-orchestration assets into its core architecture, Salesforce continues to signal to Wall Street that aggressive inorganic growth remains central to maintaining its market leadership in the enterprise software sector.
