Vishay launches 45 mm inductive encoder for industrial use

Vishay Intertechnology (NYSE: VSH) introduced a new inductive position sensor encoder, the RAIK045I MP, designed for industrial applications where proximity to electric motors can interfere with traditional magnetic encoders.

The device offers 16-bit resolution, repeatability of 14 bits or greater, and supports rotation speeds up to 10,000 rpm. It measures 45 mm in diameter and 6.6 mm thick, weighing approximately 13 g, with a rotor of 4.3 g. The encoder provides absolute accuracy of 10 bits or greater, equivalent to 0.35 degrees.

According to the company, the sensor's inductive technology makes it immune to external magnetic fields, a limitation associated with magnetic encoder alternatives. The device also claims resistance to moisture, airborne pollution, vibration, mechanical shock, and temperature changes, with an operating range of -40°C to +125°C.

Vishay states the encoder is suited for robotics, motor drives, conveyor belt control, automated guided vehicles, off-road and agricultural equipment, windmills, cleaning robots, solar panels, hospital beds, surgical tables, drones, and missile launchers.

The RAIK045I MP features an off-axis design for hollow shaft mounting, a 360-degree electrical angle, SPI output, and RoHS compliance. Sin/Cos output is available upon request.
