GrafTech raises graphite electrode prices by at least 30%

September 8, 2026 8:01 AM

GrafTech International Ltd. (NYSE: EAF) announced a minimum 30% increase in graphite electrode prices, effective immediately for all open commercial negotiations, according to a press release from the Brooklyn Heights, Ohio-based company.

The increase follows a pricing action GrafTech announced in March 2026. The company cited a multi-year decline in graphite electrode prices alongside rising raw material, energy, and logistics costs as factors behind the decision.

GrafTech said it has taken steps to reduce costs, including workforce reductions, capacity idling, and a planned closure of its graphite electrode manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico. The company stated those measures alone were not sufficient to restore what it described as sustainable economics.

Chief Executive Officer and President Timothy Flanagan said in a statement: "Our graphite electrode pricing remains at levels that we do not believe are sustainable or consistent with the investment required to provide customers with reliable, high-quality supply over the long term."

Flanagan added that the price increase, combined with the announced capacity reduction and support for ongoing trade proceedings, reflects a strategy to address structural challenges facing the business.

GrafTech manufactures graphite electrode products used in electric arc furnace steel production and the processing of other ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
