Marcus Theatres reports record summer revenue for 2026

September 8, 2026 7:46 AM

Marcus Theatres, a division of Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), reported its highest total revenue for a summer moviegoing season in company history, defined as the period from the first Friday in May through Labor Day 2026, according to a company statement.

The chain, which operates 975 screens at 77 locations across 17 states, said it set multiple records during the period, including highest box office, highest concession and food and beverage revenue, highest per capita admission and spending figures, and highest premium large format screen attendance for any summer on record. Summer attendance reached its highest level since 2019.

Films credited with driving the results included Toy Story 5, which the company said had the highest opening weekend for an animated film since 2019, as well as The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The latter two titles contributed to what the company described as the highest August attendance and box office in Marcus Theatres history.

The company also noted that the 2026 summer season finished as the top-grossing domestic box office summer of all time industrywide, with an estimated 335 million tickets sold nationwide.

"Our outstanding summer performance delivered numerous records and lots of happy moviegoers who enjoyed some of the best performing movies of all time on the big screen," said Jeff Tomachek, president of Marcus Theatres.

Marcus Theatres operates under the Marcus Theatres, Movie Tavern by Marcus, and BistroPlex brand names.
