Fifth Third completes Comerica tech conversion across five states
Fifth Third Bancorp (NYSE: FITB) announced it has completed the technical conversion of approximately 600,000 customer accounts and 293 banking centers formerly operated under the Comerica brand across Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan and Texas.
The conversion, executed over Labor Day weekend, moves Comerica consumer and commercial customers onto Fifth Third's platforms. It completes an integration that began when the two companies merged on Feb. 1, 2026.
According to the company, the combined entity is now the ninth-largest U.S. bank with more than $300 billion in assets and a network of approximately 1,500 branches and 21,300 ATMs.
In Michigan, Fifth Third claims the No. 1 retail deposit share statewide and in Detroit. The company says former Comerica customers in Michigan will gain 60% more branch access, while existing Fifth Third customers gain 42% more access.
In Texas, Fifth Third now operates 107 financial centers and plans to invest nearly $1 billion over the next five years, which includes opening 150 new financial centers by 2029. By 2030, Fifth Third expects to operate approximately 1,750 branches total, with more than half located in Texas, the Southeast, Arizona and California.
"Now that we're on one platform, we can bring the full strength of the combined company to every client, in every market we serve," said Tim Spence, chairman, CEO and president of Fifth Third.
