XPeng Inc. (NYSE: XPEV) has commissioned its humanoid robot production lines and completed manufacturing of its IRON humanoid robot, which autonomously walked off the production line, the company said in a statement dated Sept. 7, 2026.

The company claims the production lines are the first automated manufacturing lines for an advanced humanoid robot, with core process automation exceeding 80%. XPeng said the lines are built to automotive-grade quality standards and are designed for scale.

IRON features 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand. The robot is powered by three Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power, enabling on-device operation without remote control.

XPeng Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said: "The robot production lines were created from scratch with no precedent to follow. Today's step is small, but XPENG is building the production lines for an entirely new product category."

The company said mass production is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026, with initial deployments in XPeng's own stores and campuses. Market launch and delivery in China and overseas are planned for 2027.

On Aug. 24, XPeng's robotics business entered into share purchase agreements with multiple investors, raising over $900 million at a post-money valuation of over $6.3 billion, which the company described as the largest single-round private capital raise in China's embodied AI industry to date.

XPeng said it expects the gross margin per unit for its humanoid robots to be significantly higher than that of its electric vehicles, citing high technical barriers and limited supply in the segment.
