Amarin presents new REDUCE-IT data at ESC Congress 2026

Amarin Corporation (NASDAQ: AMRN) highlighted findings from multiple company-supported research presentations at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2026 in Munich, Germany, covering treatment adherence, cardiovascular outcomes, lipoprotein(a), coagulation biomarkers, and potential mechanisms of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

A post hoc analysis of REDUCE-IT examined lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] variability over 24 months among 5,036 of the trial's 8,179 participants. Investigators found substantial variability in Lp(a) levels over time, particularly in patients with higher baseline concentrations. Participants with average Lp(a) levels of 70 mg/dL or higher showed a mean within-patient range of 25.3 mg/dL, and more than one-third of participants with baseline Lp(a) between 50 mg/dL and less than 70 mg/dL recorded at least one subsequent measurement at or above 70 mg/dL.

A separate mechanistic study found that EPA reduced primary and secondary oxidation products in both Lp(a) and LDL, and that oxidized Lp(a) altered protein expression in endothelial cells, with many of those changes reversed by EPA treatment.

A post hoc analysis of sex differences found that women in REDUCE-IT discontinued study participation and medication earlier and more frequently than men. No significant differences were observed between treatment groups, indicating the pattern was present in both the icosapent ethyl and placebo arms. Withdrawal of consent was the most common reason for study discontinuation.

An additional post hoc analysis found that circulating tissue factor levels were reduced after two years of icosapent ethyl treatment compared with placebo. In patients with elevated baseline tissue factor levels, icosapent ethyl was associated with a significantly lower risk of first cardiovascular events.

Amarin also noted that the 2026 ESC and European Renal Association guidelines for cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease reference REDUCE-IT RENAL data, recognizing that icosapent ethyl reduced major adverse cardiovascular events in statin-treated patients with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, elevated triglycerides, and chronic kidney disease.
