AECOM (NYSE: ACM) has been appointed as the design partner for the Warkworth to Te Hana road project in New Zealand, working alongside ACCIONA as lead contractor, according to a company statement.

The project forms Section One of the Northland Corridor Program, a planned 100-kilometer motorway connecting Auckland to Whangārei. ACCIONA, together with partner Aberdeen Investments, makes up the Northway Consortium overseeing the project.

The work involves upgrading the existing State Highway 1 to a higher-standard motorway. AECOM's design includes a new system interchange, alignment changes to improve curves and sight distances, and safer gradients. The design also aims to reduce the road's vulnerability to flooding and landslides.

"The Northland Corridor is a transformational investment that will improve safety, resilience and connectivity across the upper North Island," said Mark McManamny, AECOM's Chief Executive of Australia and New Zealand.

Russell Jackson, interim chief executive of AECOM's global Transportation business, said the project "is a transformative investment in New Zealand's transportation infrastructure and economic growth."

AECOM said its design approach incorporates reuse of on-site materials to reduce imported materials, lower haulage costs, and cut embodied carbon emissions.

Dallas-based AECOM reported revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025.
