EHang Holdings Limited (NASDAQ: EH) announced that its EH216-S pilotless electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft completed its first public flight at Hong Kong Cyberport on Aug. 28, 2026, under the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government's Low-Altitude Economy "Regulatory Sandbox X" Trial Project.

The flight, which took place at the Cyberport waterfront vertiport, included vertical take-off and landing, low-altitude cruise, and hover maneuvers along pre-programmed routes. The demonstration was attended by government officials including Michael Wong, Deputy Financial Secretary and Head of the Working Group on Developing Low Altitude Economy, and Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics.

The public flight followed the start of the first phase of validation flights in mid-August. EHang said the EH216-S was scheduled to conduct additional public flight sessions at Cyberport through Aug. 30 to test system reliability and safety under high-frequency operational conditions.

EHang is working with Kwoon Chung Smart Mobility Company Limited and Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited on commercialization preparations under the project. The Hong Kong government said it is studying dedicated legislation for non-conventional aircraft, with drafting targeted for completion in 2027.

Michael Wong stated at the event that the government's Regulatory Sandbox X is testing more complex applications than its predecessor, with the first batch of 33 pilot projects, including four non-conventional aircraft projects, undergoing phased testing since the first half of 2026.

According to the press release, the EH216-S holds a type certificate, production certificate, and standard airworthiness certificate from China's Civil Aviation Administration, making it the first pilotless human-carrying eVTOL to receive all three certifications from that authority.
