Laser Photonics meets with SOCOM to discuss anti-drone system

August 27, 2026 8:32 AM

Laser Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ: LASE) and its affiliated company Fonon Technologies announced a direct engagement with U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) to present capabilities of their Laser Shield Anti-Drone (LSAD) system, according to a company press release.

The meeting allowed LASE Group representatives to discuss the system's directed-energy counter-unmanned aerial system capabilities with SOCOM stakeholders. The company said SOCOM had previously identified Fonon's solution brief as having the potential to address mission requirements.

The announcement coincides with remarks made by Army Lt. Gen. Joseph Jarrard at the Space and Missile Defense Symposium on Aug. 13, 2026, in which he described current U.S. defenses against drone swarms as "ill-equipped." In July 2026, Joint Interagency Task Force 401 published a handbook calling for layered and integrated approaches to counter-drone protection.

LSAD is being developed as a transportable, modular counter-UAS system targeting Group 1 and Group 2 unmanned aircraft. Configurations under development include fixed-site, vehicle-mounted, and soldier-portable platforms.

The company conducted live testing at its Lake Mary, Florida facility, where the system detected, tracked, and neutralized a simulated Class I drone decoy in under three seconds. Previous field testing showed the LSAD detection software identified and tracked target drones in more than 95% of test scenarios.

The company said LSAD is also under evaluation through the U.S. Air Force Shaw Air Force Base Battle Lab Commercial Solutions Opening process and the Department of War's Mission Engineering and Integration Activity Vulcan Call for Solutions.

"Our engagement with U.S. Special Operations Command was highly productive and reinforced our belief that LSAD is addressing a real and rapidly growing defense requirement," said Ann Tewari, Interim President of Laser Photonics.
