Asure Software (Nasdaq: ASUR) has outlined more than 50 automated functions now available through its Luna AI system, embedded across its AsureCentral platform for payroll and HR operations in the United States and Canada, according to a company statement.

The capabilities span employee self-service tasks — such as checking paid time off balances and submitting time-off requests using plain language — as well as employer-facing functions including tracking unsigned documents, surfacing stalled workflows, and sending automated reminders.

Asure describes Luna as an "agentic" system, meaning it is designed to identify issues, take action, and escalate unresolved exceptions to human reviewers, rather than simply responding to queries. The company distinguishes this from conventional AI assistants that surface information but leave action to the user.

"Luna AI is not a payroll chatbot. It's a layer that takes work off the owner's desk entirely," said Pat Goepel, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Asure Software. "The important question for AI is no longer simply, 'Can it answer the question?' The question is, 'Can it recognize the problem, take the next action and help get the work completed?'"

Asure says Luna is focused on areas it identifies as sources of recurring administrative burden and financial risk, including payroll preparation, tax and compliance, money movement, and employee service. The company currently serves more than 100,000 businesses and says its infrastructure supports more than two million U.S. employees.

Goepel added: "The most valuable agent isn't necessarily the one that writes the best paragraph. For an employer, it's the agent that notices an employee is missing hours before payroll closes, identifies an unusual deduction, tracks down a failed ACH, sees a tax deadline approaching or gets a routine employee question resolved without the owner ever having to touch it."

AsureCentral connects payroll, tax, HR, time, and recruiting functions, while Asure's payroll tax and treasury infrastructure covers funding, reconciliation, tax filings, and interactions with government agencies.
