The American Water Charitable Foundation, a non-profit established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), has awarded a $25,000 Workforce Readiness grant to the Monterey Peninsula College Foundation in Pacific Grove, California.

According to a press release, the funds will support the MPC Foundation's Honor Grant program, which focuses on students pursuing careers in nursing, firefighting, and emergency medical services. The grant is intended to expand hands-on learning opportunities and career-connected experiences for students on California's Central Coast.

"The $25,000 Workforce Readiness grant for the MPC Foundation's Honor Grant program is a tangible commitment to preparing the next generation of nurses, firefighters, and emergency medical professionals," said Beccie Michael, Executive Director of the MPC Foundation.

The grant is part of the foundation's Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, which targets general career readiness, financial and business literacy, positive youth development, and life skills training.

California American Water, a subsidiary of American Water serving approximately 720,000 people in California, participated in the award alongside the foundation.

Since 2012, the American Water Charitable Foundation has distributed over $25 million through grants and matching gifts to organizations in communities served by American Water. The foundation is funded by American Water shareholders and has no impact on customer rates.
