GeneDx (Nasdaq: WGS) has launched an online offering that allows families to initiate exome genetic testing directly through its website, targeting pediatric patients with global developmental delay, intellectual disability, or epilepsy who face barriers to specialty care.

The service connects families with licensed healthcare providers who can review medical information, order testing, and deliver results without requiring in-person visits. The offering is available to eligible pediatric patients across the United States, subject to provider availability, clinical appropriateness, and applicable state requirements.

According to the company's press release, approximately 25% of pediatric patients wait more than a year and about 50% wait more than six months for a clinical genetics appointment. More than 450,000 children in the U.S. live with epilepsy and more than one million have intellectual disability.

The American Academy of Pediatrics updated its clinical guidance in 2025 to recommend exome sequencing as a first-tier test for children with global developmental delay or intellectual disability. Research estimates that up to 50% of causes of these conditions are genetic.

The service is designed to work alongside a child's existing pediatrician, neurologist, or specialist, rather than replace traditional care relationships.
