Babcock & Wilcox (NYSE: BW) has signed an agreement with Siemens Energy to begin work on 20 steam turbine generator sets, each rated at 50 megawatts, totaling 1 gigawatt of generating capacity, according to a press release from the Akron, Ohio-based company.

The turbines are intended for use in B&W's FastPower program, which targets data center power projects. The agreement is separate from a previously announced turbine order B&W had placed with Siemens Energy.

Brandy Johnson, Chief Technology Officer at B&W, said the order "secures 1 GW of capacity" and is intended to support customers requiring power on accelerated timelines.

Tobias Panse, Senior Vice President of Steam Turbines and Generators for Siemens Energy, attributed the agreement to "growing demand for reliable, affordable, and resilient energy infrastructure" in the U.S. market.
