Bruker Corporation (Nasdaq: BRKR) announced a majority investment in MIMETAS B.V., a Leiden, Netherlands-based developer of organ-on-a-chip platforms and human tissue models used in drug discovery and development. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

MIMETAS develops the OrganoPlate® platform, which combines a standard microtiter-plate format with membrane-free microfluidic tissue cultures. The platform supports imaging, automated handling, and higher-throughput research workflows. The company's portfolio also includes OrganoReady® tissue and organoid products, supporting instruments, and contract research services.

Bruker said it plans to integrate MIMETAS capabilities with its existing technologies in proteomics, metabolomics, NMR, preclinical imaging, and spatial biology to develop combined product and service workflows.

"Human physiology-relevant tissue and disease models are becoming increasingly important for understanding disease biology and evaluating therapeutic candidates," said Frank H. Laukien, President and CEO of Bruker. "The unique MIMETAS organ-on-a-chip platforms complement Bruker's capabilities in multiomics, spatial biology and preclinical imaging."

Paul Vulto and Jos Joore, co-founders and co-CEOs of MIMETAS, said the arrangement is expected to expand availability of their platforms to more researchers. MIMETAS will continue to operate under its existing brand and management following the transaction.

MIMETAS has operations in North America, Europe, and Asia, and counts pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies among its customers.
