Armata Pharmaceuticals (NYSE American: ARMP) announced it has received an additional $2.5 million in non-dilutive funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to support the development of its lead clinical candidate AP-SA02, a bacteriophage therapeutic targeting Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia.

The funding was received through the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium and is managed by the Naval Medical Research Command with contributions from the Defense Health Agency and Joint Warfighter Medical Research Program. Total non-dilutive DoD funding for the program now stands at $28.7 million.

The additional $2.5 million is designated to fund activities supporting Phase 3 readiness of AP-SA02, which Armata plans to advance into a Phase 3 superiority study in the second half of 2026. The study will evaluate intravenous AP-SA02 as an adjunct treatment for complicated S. aureus bacteremia caused by methicillin-sensitive or methicillin-resistant S. aureus.

AP-SA02 holds Qualified Infectious Disease Product and Fast Track designations from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The drug previously showed positive results in a Phase 1b/2a study, which were presented at IDWeek 2025 in October 2025.
