Standpoint Research upgraded Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) from Hold to Buy with a $29 price target.
The firm notes, "We closed out MSFT on January 7, 2011 with an 18.75% gain and 510 bps gain versus the S&P-500. It is not easy to beat a rising market with a low beta name, but we did it late last year with this name. MSFT shares have underperformed the S&P by more than 2000 bps since our downgrade and can be reinstated at this time. MSFT ranked # 3 out of 500 names according to our 155-variable computer model in the S&P-500 report that went out yesterday and the shares are now trading back down where they were when we made the September 2010 recommendation."
