Bears Lick Chops on Citigroup (C); Short Interest Surges

Bears aren't convinced that Citigroup's (NYSE: C) 43 percent run-up since mid-year is real and have subsequently loaded-up the short side.
The latest data from the NYSE shows that short interest in the name surged 68 percent- from 39,113,422 shares at Nov. 30 to 65,670,295 shares at Dec. 14.
Overall, short interest in Citigroup is relatively low at just 2.33% of the float. This, however, is above peers like BofA (NYSE: BAC) at 1.93% and JPMorgan (NYSE: JPM) at 1.15%.
