Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) is considering raising its famous 140-character limit on tweets to 10,000 characters, according to reports from Re/code citing various sources. This is the same limit its Direct Messages product was recently raised to.
Twitter is targeting a launch date toward the end of Q1, although there is no official date as testing continues on the project known inside the company as 'Beyond 140.'
Investors don't seem pleased with the news, sending the stock down to a session low of $21.99 (-2.6%). The news suggests to some the company is grasping at straws to improve user growth. The new tweet limit could also turnoff many users who prefer the concise 140-character limit.
