Rite Aid (RAD) Reports April Same-Store Sales Increase

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) today announced April same store sales increased 0.5% over the prior-year period. Pharmacy same store sales increased 1.8%, which included an approximate 386 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions. Front-end same store sales were down 1.7%, negatively impacted by the shift of Easter to March this year versus April last year. Front-end same store sales for the combined March and April sales periods increased 1.9%.
Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 46.9 percent to $2.003 billion compared to $1.363 billion for the same period last year. Prescription revenue accounted for 68.3 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented 96.2 percent of pharmacy sales.
