Live Webinar Offers Practical Advice on Bringing Lean to the Lab

Inspired by the success of lean manufacturing in industrial production, lean lab methods are increasingly being adopted by the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. In contrast to the manufacturing industry, the laboratory environment and operations have some specific challenges that require special handling, even though the key principles remain the same.

What is Lean Lab?
Lean Lab is primarily an internal process optimization task, contributing towards improvement of the economic efficiency of an organization. The ultimate goal is the optimal balance of the three key laboratory drivers of high quality, low costs, and rapid lead time. But where to start?

During this 60-minute webinar, participants will learn how to better define, structure, and control laboratory processes to deliver more consistent and predictable laboratory performance; understand the potential benefits of a lean lab approach, including reduced lead time and costs, significantly increased productivity, and a detailed understanding of lab capacity and resourcing requirements; and recognize the factors that must be considered for implementation or improvement of a lean lab concept, including value stream mapping and an assessment of laboratory workload and workflow, with practical examples described.

For New or Established Laboratories
Design of a new building or laboratory can certainly benefit from consideration of lean principles in the project implementation, but the significant improvement that can be gained by designing or optimizing lean processes in for an established laboratory should not be underestimated. Operational changes, such as optimization of workplaces and work processes and standardization of equipment and software can be initiated in small steps, module-by-module, at any time.
