Civitech Names Andrew Byrnes as General Counsel
Former Uber legal leader and Obama administration official joins political technology organization as it scales its work expanding democratic participation.
Byrnes brings more than 25 years of experience across technology, law, business, and public policy, and a decades-long commitment to Democratic politics. He previously served as Senior Legal Director, Rides at Uber, where he helped lead legal work for the company's global rideshare business across more than 60 countries, and as Deputy General Counsel and Global Head of Public Affairs at Getaround, as well as other senior legal and public affairs roles at venture-backed technology companies. Byrnes has also been active in Democratic politics for more than three decades, including serving as Chair of the San Mateo County Democratic Party, and on the National Finance Committees for the Obama, Biden, and Harris presidential campaigns. He has also used his legal background to advance civil rights, serving as co-lead counsel in a landmark racial profiling lawsuit against former Maricopa County Sheriff
His appointment marks an important stage in Civitech's growth. Since the company's 2019 founding, more than 1,400 partners have used its tools to reach tens of millions of voters. As Civitech prepares for its next stage of expansion, Byrnes will build the legal, governance, risk, and compliance infrastructure needed to support it. In the role, he will serve as the company's primary legal advisor, advise on corporate transactions and strategic partnerships, and help ensure Civitech's legal framework keeps pace with its growth.
